The United States is witnessing a drastic redefinition of the policies and practices associated with “public education.” Discussions around the future of public education are strong on passion but short on actual evidence. We are establishing an open venue- a true public forum to debate controversial and consequential policy issues that will shape American’s future, and welcome you to the conversation.

This study, along with the report on homeless children in America and President Obama's speech on education made for a potentially transcendent week in public education: http://kriley19.wordpress.com/2009/03/15/5-pillars-to-save-a-nation/
Thanks for the link to a great article! This study really does raise interesting questions about how schools are used in America to address issues that are left unresolved on the outside. I'd love to try a discussion with my students about inequalities in our society and about how we frequently attempt to address those differences through the educational system. I imagine it would make for an interesting debate and would serve to get the kids thinking about education and the weightier issues of poverty, equality, justice, and class.
