"

Is there any evidence that people who have been teachers or principals have better ideas about education policies than people without such background? Last a bill was introduced in Congress that would have delayed NCLB's accountability requirements. The rep who introduced the bill had been a teacher. Remember what happened? The civil rights establishment rose up promptly and strongly to oppose it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21843852.post-5647061535825695282009-05-04T05:59:00.000-05:002009-05-04T05:59:00.000-05:00effort is very cool, let see how they will impleme...effort is very cool, let see how they will implement their ideas.character educationhttp://www.iamgoingtocollege.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21843852.post-4191255367713924882009-05-03T19:03:00.000-05:002009-05-03T19:03:00.000-05:00http://www.heralddeparis.com/sunday-journal-educat...http://www.heralddeparis.com/sunday-journal-education-or-a-lack-thereof/33028jeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07576482328719434480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21843852.post-85738635983573498232009-05-03T16:42:00.000-05:002009-05-03T16:42:00.000-05:00Is data important? But only in that it tells teachers what concepts they may need to reteach and which students may need intervention.

Data (from standardized, district or state created tests) tells very little about teacher effectiveness. Any kid can (and very well might, depending on his/her mood/age/personality) bomb a test on purpose. OBSERVATION does. Whether it be by peers, administrators, or by the teacher herself. Teachers, who truly want to become better teachers, need to hear from others and see what others see in their teaching. That's what will lead to improvement in best practice, and teacher willingness to change and become more effective.

Effective teachers not only have students who learn, but those who want to learn MORE. An effective teacher is one who instills (ooh! I used last week's vocabulary word!) a love of learning and guides his/her students to want to explore and learn about everything that is out there. That is how we will get our kids to love learning for the sake of learning itself. The Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07290385147876563452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21843852.post-20673881525829890992009-05-03T16:38:00.000-05:002009-05-03T16:38:00.000-05:00Nice effort to show how "former" decisio...Nice effort to show how "former" decision-makers keep on their "efforts" to leave almost no space for a reasonable reflection grow on a rational approach to educational issues. More from the same... That's not an U.S. problem, that's Global.
